The Distribution of Fat on our
Body
Most men and women put on weight
differently and what causes fat to settle
in a specific spot is not known. There is
no strict specific fat pattern
distribution for men and women nor is it
known definitively what factors influence
fat distribution.
Being overweight or underweight are
characteristics depending on many factors:
you are genetically overweight if you have
a family history of overweight parents /
relatives.
The nervous system plays an important
role in balancing body weight: endorphins
and serotonin send signals to the brain
that it is time to eat or to stop. The CCK
hormone decreases hunger.

Generally body weight is influenced
genetically as well as hormonaly and by
the body's activity routine; it also seems
probable that fat distribution is
influenced by age, genetic inheritance and
race, and to a greater extent by gender
specific hormones which are responsible
for the distribution of fat in certain
zones of our body.
Estrogens are responsible for the
typical female sexual characteristics and
hence will influence the fat deposits in
the "pear" format, favouring the hips,
thighs and belly; Testosterone will lead
fat mostly towards the stomach and the
upper body.
Men show a tendency towards fat
deposits on the stomach and hips.

It seems that modern life exposes
people to increased amounts of estrogen
and estrogen-like substances such as
xenoestrogens; sources of these can be
commercially raised beef, chicken and
pork, personal care products, pesticides
and herbicides, spermacide and birth
control pills, detergent, canned foods and
many other substances
The biggest problem for men is that
increased estrogen levels not only make
hips fatter but is the main risk factor
for diseases such as prostate enlargement
and cancer.
For women the fat distribution pattern
probably brings into question hormonal
imbalances, possibly being a potential
cause for health problems such as
polycystic ovary syndrome.
Fat can induce health problems;
increased body fat affects health and its
distribution on the body influences the
state of health of specific body organs.
Fat can be subcutaneous - under the skin -
or visceral - around the organs and the
greatest concern is the latter can
interfere with the correct functioning of
the vital organs; for example, fat around
the middle body section is visceral fat
and so abdominal fat is a most serious
health risk.
People who are apple-shaped have great
fat deposits around the waist and chest
areas and such a distribution leads to
various risks including:
- Cardiovascular diseases and
hypertension
- Diabetes
- Respiratory diseases
- Osteoarthritis
- Various cancers
The pear-shaped person where most of
the body fat is distributed around their
hips, thighs and bottom, often have health
problems associated with the lower back
and legs.
Extra / excess weight can only create
problems, no matter what shape the body is
and where the fat is distributed. The main
way extra fat is created is the food
intake that the body cannot burn up for
various reasons such as decreased
metabolic rate due to a low activity level
or a pre-exisitng physical condition that
prevents anything more than a sedentary
lifestyle and consequently it creates fat
deposits.
END BINGE EATING ONCE AND FOR ALL ... DETAILS HERE
The solution is simple: diet and
exercise, however the process appears to
be much harder for women than it is for
men. Women are at a disadvantage as their
physiological processes such as
childbearing and hormone functions require
a supply of essential fat and this part of
essential fat is harder to dislodge. Women
also have less calorie burning muscle than
men making it more demanding for the
female to achieve a slimmer figure.
