The facts about calorie
counting:
One pound of fat represents
approximately 3500 calories of stored
energy (in the form of fat).
In order to lose 1 pound of fat, you
have to use 3500 more calories than you
consume.
So, if your calorie intake over 7 days
is 7 x 2000 day = 14,000 calories week; to
lose 1 pound of fat you need to cut that 7
day calorie total down to 11,500. The 1
pound will be gone.
Stop! Just because I say only 1 pound
do not be discouraged ...
lose 1 pound each week for 12 weeks is
very nearly 1 STONE!

So the strategy is not to lose the
1 pound in 1 day (as that loss will not be
fat but instead it will be water); spread
your 1 pound loss - your reduction by 3500
calories - over 7 days!
You need a book with calorie figures of
the various foods; you can pick these up
virtually everywhere.
Do not become obsessive! You do not
have to weigh everything to get exact
figures! Generalize - a glass of wine is
120 cals, a cracker is 25 cals, a piece of
fruit is 50 cals.
Do not even start reducing you calorie
intake until you have counted your calorie
intake over 1 week. Get a notepad, and for
1 week write down every single piece of
food and drink that goes into your mouth.
Convert it to calories, using your book.
Then in the 2nd week follow the same
eating pattern, but reduce the calorie
intake by 500 each day (using the figures
above). Simple! Eat 1 piece of cheescake
instead of two!

A piece of advice:
- Women: never eat less than 1200
calories per day.
- Men: never eat less than 2000
calories per day.
It is not healthy to try to lose more
than one-two pounds in a week and if you
do attempt to do so you are unlikely to be
successful and will abandon your diet.
Stick with a loss of 1 pound a week and a
new you will slowly, but very surely,
emerge!
